I know of nothing to equal the happy expectancy of finding something new, something unguessed in advance, something only you would find, because as well as being a photographer, you were a certain kind of human being, and you would react to something all others might walk by.

Joan Didion

I'm not telling you to make the world better, because I don't think that progress is necessarily part of the package. I'm just telling you to live in it. Not just to endure it, not just to suffer it, not just to pass through it, but to live in it. To look at it. To try to get the picture. To live recklessly. To take chances. To make your own work and take pride in it. To seize the moment. And if you ask me why you should bother to do that, I could tell you that the grave's a fine and private place, but none I think do there embrace. Milton Glaser

So this video is not anything new. It’s something I found a while back while I was looking for something else. But I like to bring it with me wherever I go. I did not know who Milton Glaser was before I saw this video but I did know his work. I’ve seen it around as I’m sure you probably have too. I love this video because I love what he says about art and the artistic life. Glaser is a graphic designer and though my medium of choice is photography I think that all art comes from the same place and that place is from within. To me art is an expression, a means to communicate with the world when words aren’t enough and it doesn't matter in what form that communication takes place.

Even if you have seen this video before it bears viewing again.
